If you’re a TikTok user, you might have already seen many people using the term “IB”. But, what does IB mean on TikTok, exactly?
These days, it’s not unusual to see “IB” in the description for a TikTok video, although its meaning isn’t always obvious to everyone using this social media platform, especially new users. And while “IB” has several meanings, on TikTok, it popularly stands for “inspired by”.
Many content creators tend to use the hashtag #ib as a way to give credit to another creator. For example, when recreating a video made by someone else, the person who recreated it will likely use #ib @username to give a shout-out to the original creator. In some cases, it will be used as a hashtag while in others it might not be. Also, it can sometimes be capitalized or displayed in lower cases, although its meaning remains the same.
There aren’t any official rules about crediting someone who inspires you in your TikTok caption, but it is nice to give a shout-out to the original creators of whatever you were trying to recreate.
Aside from “inspired by,” other TikTok users also use “IB” to refer to International Baccalaureate classes. IB classes are slightly similar to AP (Advanced Placement) classes in that high school students can take them in order to earn college credit before actually entering university.
