What does mutuals mean on TikTok? This popular term is used everywhere online – not just on TikTok.

Discover the meaning behind it!

What Does Mutuals Mean on Tiktok

Essentially, “mutuals” refer to your online “friends” whom you mostly interact with over social media, or other internet communication services.

Probably the most important distinction between a mutual and someone who just incessantly floods your DMs online is that mutuals follow each other back, showing a mutual appreciation over one another’s content and/or posts.

TikTok isn’t the only social media platform this term is used on either.

You’ll come across a bunch of Facebook posts, tweets, and IG posts mentioning the term and it carries the same meaning.

Moreover, the term ‘mutuals’ has been further shortened to ‘moots’.

As weird as that might sound, not just the word itself but also the fact that it’s slang for slang, it’s used commonly on TikTok and other platforms common amongst teenagers and Gen-Z.

So, if you find yourself doing just about anything online with a friend that you’ve only known through the platform, you’re both ‘mutually’ participating in the said activity and hence are ‘mutuals’ on that platform, be it TikTok, Twitter or something like Instagram or Twitch.
